Windows XP Log On/Log Off Loop.

Usually this happens when you erase the userInit for your username.  This can happen when you have run some type of scanner like Hijack This or AVG.

This method has worked wonders every time.   I take no responsibility for this procedure but it’s the only one that let’s you keep your current Windows installation.  So far the average time to scan has been around 2 hours.  That depends on how much data and how fast your hard drive is.

The first disc is a Vista recovery that is only used to boot to dos.  The second disc is the SaveMe disc that has Spybot, Hijack This, and custom software to restore your user profile.  Note your drive number, installation directory where Windows is installed, and your Service Pack number.

Download Avast from the Software section and install it immediately.  Trust nothing else.

*NOTE*
You will be downloading large amounts of data and need the hardware to burn at least 2 cd’s.   You also need to know how to boot from a cd either by pressing F12 while booting or change the boot sequence in your CMOS.

Save Yourself!

Keep Windows and your anti-virus updated.  That’s the number one reason for infections and browser hijackings.

Only have one anti-virus program installed on your machine at a time.  Spybot however can be installed alongside it.

Keep everything updated at least weekly.  I update every morning and evening.

Half or more of our customers wouldn’t have even needed us if they would have followed these simple instructions.  A little knowledge and preventive maintenance can save you hundreds in parts and labor.
